Strategy & Struggle
I come from a small town where almost no one seems to leave, eventually becoming a statistic or working in the fields not pursuing their education. I have spent most of my life struggling with the dangerous environment I live around and financially depending on just my mother for most of my life until now. Being from a town where other people do not seem to know even exists and where people seem to stay here and not do anything with their dreams or aspirations only give me motivation to get to where I need to be.
I did not have the best life growing up but I always had someone I looked up to and strived to be. I knew my older brother Alex was always there to support me, especially when my mother was not around, which was most of the time when I was growing up. I never held any resentment towards my mom for not being there throughout my childhood, because she was working hard to give us everything we needed. My mom is the most hardworking woman I know, she is strong and I hope one day I can show her how all of hard work is going to be shown through my siblings and I. When my mom was not there my brother was always my emotional support, I want to be as independent as him, he has shown me that the road to becoming successful is not easy but if you want something bad enough you will find a way to get it.
Since my brother has been gone, away at college, I did not have someone that gave me so much support like him. Another difficult moment was when my uncle passed away in April, although this was a difficult time for me it also gave me so much motivation. He is one very important person in my life because I saw everything that he achieved in his life and he always told me to continue to go to school no matter what happens, he was the person that I wanted to be and everyday his memory, the talks we would have, and the time we spent together will always help me continue my pass to success.
In all of my years of high school my sophomore year I struggled the most. Everything seemed to pile on top of me, I did not have enough time for everything I needed to do. I feared that my grades would drop and that I would disappoint my mom and my brother that had already been doing so much to support me; I could not ask them for help, I needed to find a way to bring up my grades up on my own and finish all my work. I managed my time to perfection; I stayed after school and worked with friends, teachers and classmates to finish everything I had to do. This strategy and struggle was how I managed to pass all but one of my classes, re-take it, learn from my mistakes, and ultimately increase my GPA.
